Hello! Happy October! It's the most wonderful time of the year, in my opinion. :-)

My photography, outfittery, and bloggery has been on hold recently. My husband and I just finished acting in a local play at the end of September. There was only one cast member besides us, so it took up all our free time. So many cues and props! I have more free time now, but I injured my knee in the show and I've had to mostly keep off it for the past week.:-/ It's driving me a little crazy because all I want to do is be out in the beautiful fall weather - or at least be more mobile around the house.

We did have a black spot in the fall weather the day before yesterday. A surprise tornado touched down near our neighbourhood. It's not something we're at all used to in western North Carolina. Steven and I were sitting on the couch watching Criminal Minds when we got warnings on our phones. We ran around the house like chickens for a few moments going "What do we do? What do we do?" We don't have a basement or an inner room without windows. The sky was dark gray and the temperature was strangely warm. Soon, a huge wind came through and blew leaves and pine needles around the house. It was over quickly and we didn't even lose power. A tall pine tree blew down in our backyard, but fortunately it was far away from our house. Another house on our street was not as lucky. I heard a report of one person who was injured from debris and some property damage, but I'm glad it wasn't worse.

These photos were taken last year and I never ended up posting them. I thought I would today, because this is the sort of thing I love to wear in the fall. I think it's kind of funny how short my bangs are here. :-D

Julian Price Lake in September

Just a few snaps from this September. Steven and I have been incredibly busy with work and involvement in local theatre, so it was amazing to get away for one day to take a short hike around Julian Price Lake near Blowing Rock, NC.

Design*Sponge Feature

Happy August! It's difficult to believe how fast the summer is going by. Can it be June again, please?

July was a big month for me. My art was included in a list on Design*Sponge called 14 Abstract Painters to Follow on Instagram. It was very exciting, and quite an honor. The blog post is definitely worth checking out - I agree with the writer that all the artists on the list are worth following.
This painting, Game Pieces, acrylic on canvas, 12"x 16"x.75," was the one that was featured in the list. It's recently back home with me today after winning honorable mention at a local art competition. I will be listing it soon in my shop.

This one, March + April, acrylic on canvas, 16"x 20" x.75," is also back from the competition.
July was also a month for diving head-first into oil painting. I just love the texture and lack of color shift. Acrylics will darken as they dry. I have a lot to learn about oils, and so far it's been fascinating.

This denim overall jumper has been one of my closet staples for the last couple months. It came from ASOS. I bought it after I scouring thrift stores, ebay, and etsy. I can almost always find what I'm looking for second-hand - like my boots - but not this time. It's like a pair of jeans - it goes with everything.

My fun necklace came from my friend Emily at Timeless Designs. She makes creative jewelry from upcycled finds. The centerpiece of my necklace was formerly a vintage brooch. I have a fussy thyroid, so chokers usually don't work for me, although I love the look. This necklace is a bit looser than most chokers, and it's also adjustable, with a lovely hook and chain in the back. It's just perfect and I can wear it all day. This isn't a sponsored post - I just love Emily's work (and her prices can't be beat)! You can find Timeless Designs on Facebook and Instagram.

Around the Clubhouse | July 2017

So this summer I've been mostly painting, but here's one photo to prove I still like cute clothes. (Everything in my outfit here is actually second-hand, thanks to ebay and local thrift stores)! The next photo is a little Christmas cactus I recently repotted. My dad gave the plant to me - he really knows how to propagate house plants, and these were some cuttings from a larger plant. Let's hope I can keep it alive, because I really like this little cutie.

Next are some pics of my works in progress - I've been learning to use oil and cold wax medium. It's been more challenging than I expected, but great fun to work with. The next photo is an oil painting in progress, and the last photo is a picture of my acrylic palette - because I will always love acrylics no matter how much I experiment with oils.

Hope you are having a great July! This summer finds us in a transitional period. Things are great, but a little chaotic. When things settle down a bit I hope to dedicate more time to this blog. I still manage to update daily on Instagram @annafranklinart.
